Approximately 23 miles north of downtown Houston, Kingwood, the “Livable Forest,” is located in the northeast portion of Harris County and the southeast portion of Montgomery County. Kingwood's heavily wooded acreage is famous for canopies of tall pines and magnolias, and home owners pride themselves in being known as a community that exists in harmony with nature.
Covering more than 14,000 acres and home to over 60,000 residents, Kingwood is divided into at least 20 distinct villages, each with its own neighborhood association. Kingwood has over 75 miles of “hike and bike trails” along lush greenbelts designed to encourage exercising, walking and bicycling. Over 500 acres of private nature preserves and parks host a variety of wildlife including deer, fish, migratory birds and more.
Kingwood has more than 100 different clubs and organizations and a variety of parks, including a skate park and a dog park. A pair of private clubs, Deerwood Club and the Kingwood Country Club, provide challenging golf courses for members’ enjoyment. Big name retail, shopping, and dining venues call Kingwood’s commercial center home, and the neighborhood is only three miles north of Deerbrook Mall.
Kingwood students (K-12) attend Humble Independent School District (Harris County) or New Caney Independent School District (Montgomery County) depending on their address within the community. A number of private schools are also available. A two-year community college, Lone Star College-Kingwood, serves the area and is part of the Lone Star College System.
