Hunters Creek Village, one of Houston’s Memorial Villages, is located west of Voss Road and south of Interstate-10 along Memorial Drive. Early in Hunters Creek’s history, German farmers settled on the heavily wooded tracts and built sawmills to cut timber. The farm and timberland ultimately was divided into single family residential lots nestled among the pines, oaks, and cherry laurels.

In December 1954, Hunters Creek Village incorporated with a mayor-alderman city government to protect itself from quickly approaching real estate development as Houston moved west. Home owners enacted strict zoning restrictions allowing for only single-family homes and townhomes and a very limited commercial zone.

Hunters Creek Village is one of the wealthiest enclaves in Texas. A number of the neighborhood’s homes that were were built in the 1960s have been renovated or replaced by larger homes that take full advantage of the expansive lots.

Home owners are served by the Memorial Villages Police Department and the Village Fire Department, and the Village has its own taxing authority.

The section of Hunters Creek Village located north of Buffalo Bayou is served by the Spring Branch Independent School District; the section south of Buffalo Bayou is served by the Houston Independent School District. A number of distinguished private schools also serve the area.
